Floating shelves
I use a two-piece design where the shelf is cut into two sections – one a thinner piece that fastens snugly to the wall – approximately 1″ – 1.5″ and a second deeper piece that slips onto wooden dowels in the first piece.
The thin piece is fastened with sturdy wall anchors and into the wall stud if available.
The thin piece can have wooden dowels approximately every 12″
The deeper piece has drilled holes to receive the dowels. The length of dowels varies with the dept of the shelf
Shelves can be prepared varying depths and lengths. Most commonly we use 1.5″ thick lumber
